Core Competencies
CCMPS follows ABAP’s requirements for core competencies, which are areas of proficiency candidates must master in order to graduate.
These are spelled out in these documents: ABAP Core Competencies and CCMPS Crosswalk.
In addition, CCMPS has formulated its own list of what we deem to be basic prerequisites for practicing as an analyst.
Audio Recordings
Classes are recorded, and candidates will receive a link to the audio file which is stored on the cloud (online) storage site Box, which can be accessed from any device using that link.
Supervision
PT 111: Six Supervision courses (These classes must be taken with at least two Supervisors)
PT 102: Individual Supervision: at least 200 hours of individual psychoanalytic supervision with a minimum of 3 different supervisors. 50 of these hours must be taken with one supervisor focusing on one case (control analysis) and at least 50 more hours must be taken with a second analyst working on an additional one or more cases.
Supervisors cannot be or have been the candidate’s training analyst.
Supervisors must have been certified for at least 5 years.
Disclaimer: the term ‘supervision’ refers to a process of instruction aimed at teaching psychoanalytic skills. It is not eligible to be used for licensing or insurance purposes.
Writing and Research
Candidates will submit a journal quality paper, written in APA format, between 25 and 30 pages. The paper can be theoretical or clinical, and has to include at least 15 references.
Candidates will demonstrate mastery of the chosen subject by writing a review of the literature, adding a personal interpretation of previous thinking and bringing evidence that either confırms, or adds to, the current state of knowledge.
You also will have to write a case presentation, where you examine your treatment of a patient, based on a list of psychoanalytic concepts that are essential to the conceptualization of a psychoanalysis.

This is done by joining the American Psychological Association (APA) for as an Affiliate Member for $95 a year, also known as Division 39 Membership. Candidates will be required to present a case presentation — an oral presentation of the history of a case spanning two or more consecutive years, addressing the concepts covered in the training. Candidates will follow a provided format that ensures that all aspects of treatment are covered, from diagnosis through treatment using psychoanalytic categories. A committee of at least 3 faculty members and 2 certified analysts selected by the candidate need to attend.
Audio Recordings
Classes are recorded, and candidates will receive a link to the audio file which is stored on the cloud (online) storage site Box, which can be accessed from any device using that link.

Candidates shall document having conducted 2,000 hours of psychoanalytic treatment.
Residency Requirements
To satisfy residency requirements candidates must attend, in-person, one CCMPS weekend conference annually. This conference takes place the first weekend in June in Albuquerque. (Currently on hold due to Covid-19 pandemic)
Candidate Progress and Evaluation
Candidates will use Canvas throughout their studies. This enables both candidates to evaluate the instructors, the program and themselves, and instructors to evaluate the candidates. These evaluations will be reviewed at the end of every semester by the Training Committee, which will keep students informed of their progress with an email confirming their passing of the course, and mentor them if problems come up.
Candidates will have yearly advisement with the training committee both to receive feedback as well as to have an opportunity to express any thoughts and feelings, requests and suggestions they may have.
CANDIDACY: In order to be admitted to Candidacy one must have attended 4 courses and had 50 hours of personal analysis. Also one must submit a personal statement regarding one’s desire to pursue psychoanalytic study, a CV/Resume, graduate school transcripts of highest level of training (exception are those training facilities out of the US where only diplomas are given.) and have an interview with 2 faculty members. Application must be made by email to the training committee, which will check the Canvas evaluations and obtain confirmation from the training analyst regarding the number of sessions completed. Applicants will receive an
email from the Training Director confirming their acceptance, or suggesting a meeting with the committee if problems are found.
FROM ADMITTANCE TO CONTROL ANALYSIS: After candidates have successfully completed 20 course and 5 or more group supervisions, and 150 hours of individual supervision, they will apply to the Training Director to enter the control analysis and prepare the final case presentation and the final paper. After confirmation from the candidate’s supervisors of completion of hours, the training director will email an approval to the
candidate of acceptance in the final, control phase of the training.
CONTROL, FINAL CASE AND PAPER: Candidates will form their Review Committee, consisting of 2 faculty members, exclusive of their personal analyst, and 1 to 2 fellow candidates, and ex-officio, the Director and Training Director. This committee will read the final case and paper, offer suggestions if needed, and when satisfied with the quality of work will sign off on the candidate and forward that information to the Training Committee.
FINAL CASE PRESENTATION: Once the candidate has finished all courses and supervision hours, and has completed the required hours of personal analysis, they apply to the Training Committee to give their final case presentation and conclude their training. Upon review of all sign-offs and last Canvas evaluations, the committee will set a date with the candidate to present their case in front of their Review Committee and any guests the candidate may want present. After the presentation a Diploma will be awarded and the transcript will be sent to NAAP so the newly minted analyst can register as a Psychoanalyst.
Training Committee
The Training Committee oversees the progress of candidates through the program. From admission, to end of semester reviews of candidates’ performance as documented in Canvas, to the writing of final paper and case presentation, this committee is involved in evaluating giving feedback and mentoring the candidate.
The Training Committee keeps and accesses candidate files from an online storage site, Box, where all student records are kept.
Transfer of Credits
Candidates can transfer credit from another accredited institute for up to 50% of the credit hours needed to graduate, as long as the courses match our curriculum.
Non-discrimination Policy
CCMPS welcomes all students without regard to age, race, gender, sexual orientation, religion or ethnicity.
